Everton midfielder James McCarthy has told his team-mates there is no reason why they can't secure one of the European slots this season.
Roberto Martinez's side take on a wounded Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium at lunchtime on Saturday, defending the last unbeaten record in the Premier League.
The Toffees are5.50to win on Saturday and are4.20to secure a draw, while Everton are6.00to keep a clean sheet.
The Merseysiders are currently riding amongst the early pace-setters and they have no intention of taking their foot off the gas anytime soon.
And they will certainly be looking to pile on the misery for Manuel Pellegrini's outfit, who have suffered back-to-back losses in the last week.
Martinez has warned his players City will be looking for an immediate response after being comprehensively outplayed and beaten 3-1 by Champions League holders Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
But McCarthy, who followed Martinez from Wigan to Goodison Park, this summer, is confident Everton can continue to defy the doubters.
The Republic of Ireland international said: "European football at Everton? Why not? We have the squad here to achieve that.
"The gaffer has also strengthened well with a couple of loan signings and we'll just try to push on this season."
One of those loan signings, however, midfielder, Gareth Barry, is ineligible to play this weekend against his current parent club.
