New Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen is confident that he can guide the Cottagers away from the wrong end of the Premier League table.
Meulensteen has moved into the top job following thesacking of Martin Jolon Sunday afternoon, with Fulham currently inside the bottom three after a run of five straight league defeats.
Butthe former Manchester United first-team coach is upbeat about the task ahead, which starts with a derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening at Craven Cottage.
"I am confident because of the sort of experiences I've had for so many years at Manchester United,'' Meulensteen told Sky Sports.
"You need to make sure you close your ranks and make sure you start winning again.
"It's a massive challenge, but when you're faced with a challenge like this it comes down to making sure you get the basic things right. We need to make sure the players are mentally strong and believe.''
Fulham can be backed at9/2to give Meulensteen a winning start on Wednesday, with the draw14/5, while the Cottagers are10/11to be relegated come the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Meulensteen is already looking ahead to the January transfer window, insisting that investment is needed to boost the Cottagers squad.
He told BBC Sport: "Everyone needs to realise we must invest. We need to look how we can strengthen this squad to ensure Fulham stay in the Premier League."
