Jose Mourinho has hinted that he may make Chelsea more defensive in a bid to improve their chances of winning some silverware this season.

The Blues suffered a shock 2-1 Capital One Cup quarter-final defeat to Sunderland on Tuesday and have conceded seven goals in their last three Premier League matches.

Mourinho's side have already been beaten by Everton, Newcastle United and Stoke City in the Premier League this season and currently sit third in the table, two points behind leaders Arsenal.

They also failed to impress in the group stage of the Champions League, losing twice to FC Basel, although they did eventually qualify for the last 16 of the competition.

Chelsea are currently7/2to win the Premier League title outright and12/1to clinch the Champions League for the second time in three years.

Former Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager Mourinho said: "Maybe the way to rectify it is to have a different approach and not to concede goals.

"When you don't score enough goals and you are a very offensive team and don't score enough to win, maybe the right approach is to be more defensive, concede less goals and win matches with the few goals we score. That is not what I want. That is not what we had in mind in the building of this team.

"We want this team to play the way we are playing, to have evolution, based on the football we are playing at the moment but we need to score goals to finish opponents.

"If I want to win 1-0 I can. It is one of the easiest things in football, it is not difficult. You organise your team from the defensive idea. You don't give freedom to your players to express themselves. The dynamic of the team is defensive in what you do. You recover the ball and try to punish your opponent."

Chelsea visit Arsenal on Monday and are available at11/1to win the crunch clash 1-0. They can be backed at3/1to keep a clean sheet at the Emirates Stadium.
