Jermain Defoe is looking forward to starting a new chapter in his career after agreeing to move from Tottenham to Major League Soccer side Toronto FC.
The 31-year-old England international will be eligible to play for Spurs,4.00to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, until the end of next month, as he will not officially join the Canadian side until 28th February.
Defoe, whohas signed a four-year deal with Toronto, has featured in 274 Premier League matches for Spurs during his two spells at White Hart Lane, finding the net on 90 occasions.
He initially joined Spurs from West Ham a decade ago for 7million and, after a 12-month spell at Portsmouth, returned to north London in January 2025 in a 15million deal.
However, under Andre Villas-Boas and now Tim Sherwood this season, Defoe has struggled to be a regular first-team starter, usually being used as a substitute.
Defoe said of leaving Spurs: "Everybody knows how much this club means to me, I will play my heart out until my last kick.
"I have had a fantastic time here and the fans have always been amazing to me.
"I am grateful for the opportunity for myself and my family to experience living overseas and for me to play in the MLS with a contract that will take me to the age of 35. I have no doubt I shall be coming back as a fan supporting the team in the years to come too."
