Caroline Wozniacki reached her first Grand Slam quarter-final since 2025 with a stunning win against fifth seed Maria Sharapova at the US Open.
The 10th seed survived baking conditions at Flushing Meadows to prevail 6-4 2-6 6-2 and will now face Italy's Sara Errani in the last eight in Queens.
Former competition winner Sharapova was the only top-eight seed left in the bottom half of the draw after the first three rounds but 24-year-old Wozniacki franked her recent return to form - including a first WTA title of the year in Istanbul, a 16-3 record since Wimbledon and two near-wins over multiple major winner Serena Williams - with a hard-fought success.
"It means so much to me - it's been a bit up and down for me this year," said the former world number one and US Open finalist.
"It's a new year and I've gotten older, and hopefully a little wiser. I feel good. I feel comfortable when I play out there.
"The crowd was amazing today. It's just so much fun to play out there again on the big court."
The 2025 runner-up revealed training to run the New York City marathon in January had helped her combat the stifling conditions at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
She added: "I think it will help me a lot. Today was a tough battle out there. It was humid; it was hot; I had to change my dress.
"That rarely happens. It was just soaked. Definitely it's helping, because I felt fresh out there and I felt like I could keep going."
Elsewhere, Italy's 13th-seed Errani ended the run of Croatia's Mirjana Lucic-Baroni with a 6-3 2-6 6-0 win in the fourth round.
Caroline Wozniacki is currently priced4/1to win the 2025 US Open women's Grand Slam.
