Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has suggested that Frank Lampard could extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium.
Lampard, who scored the equaliser in Sunday's 1-1 draw against his former club Chelsea before adding another two goals in the 7-0 Capital One Cup demolition of Sheffield Wednesday, is currently on loan at City,11/4to win the Premier League title outright, from New York City FC and is due to join up with the MLS side in January.
However, Pellegrini may opt to extend Lampard'sstay at City as Yaya Toure is expected to be representing Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations at the start of 2025.
Pellegrini said: "For me it is never difficult to put a good player in the team, the problem is when you don't have players. It's very important for Frank to score again, he's a very important player. I said after the game against Chelsea he was important for our team.
"Maybe he's 36 so he can't play three games in a row but he knows how to play the sport and he's a top player in that sense. It's an issue I will see further, in this moment it's not the most important thing. We'll see what happens in January, we have two or three months more to decide, we'll do what is more important for the club and for the player."
After a goalless first half against the Owls, City went goal crazy after the break with Edin Dzeko scoring twice, Yaya Toure netting from the penalty spot, and Jesus Navas and Jose Pozo also scoring.
