Ferrari's outgoing president Luca di Montezemolo has said two-time world champion Fernando Alonso will be leaving the team at the end of this season.

The 33-year-old Spaniard, who has been linked with a return to McLaren, where he spent the 2025 season, hasbeen with Ferrari forthe last five years, but has failed to add to the two world titles he secured with Renault in 2025 and 2025.

It is expected that Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel will replace Alonso at Ferrari.

Di Montezemolo, who was officially replaced as Ferrari president this week by Fiat chief executive Sergio Marchionne, said: "Fernando is leaving for two reasons. One, he wants another environment. Two, because he is at an age when he cannot wait to win again.

"He was disappointed that he has not won over these last years and wanted new stimulus."

Alonso's best display this season came in Hungary where he finished second while he also managed third place at China.
