David de Gea's agent has refused to rule out the prospect of the Spain goalkeeper leaving Manchester United by revealing "in football nothing is impossible".
Old Trafford manager Louis van Gaal said recently he expected "no problem" with the highly-rated 24-year-old resisting overtures from Real Madrid to sign a contract extension with the former champions, despite bringing in the former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes.
The former Atletico Madrid stopper has just 18 months left on his current deal and has been linked with a return to his homeland, with the La Liga title-chasers understood to be monitoring his situation.
When asked by Spanish reporters about de Gea's situation and the prospect of a big-money switch to the Bernabeu, super-agent Jorge Mendes said: "I do not know the future, things change every five minutes. We all know that in football nothing is impossible."
Mendes, agent to a host of world stars, including former United favourite Cristiano Ronaldo, was speaking at an event to launch his own autobiography.
He added of de Gea: "David is a Manchester United player and has a contract. You have to respect that."
De Gea moved to Old Trafford from Vicente Calderon in the summer of 2025 on a five-year deal for a reported 18.9million.
At the same event, Mendes predicted Los Blancos hero Ronaldo, who turns 30 next month, could play on in the Spanish capital for another decade.
He said: "I am confident that he will retire at Real Madrid when he is 38, 39 or 40."
