Aston Villa are waiting nervously on a shoulder injury sustained by Fabian Delph in training this week, with the midfielder unlikely to face Everton on Saturday.
The 24-year-old England international suffered the injury after returning from international duty and Villa boss Paul Lambert is not quite sure of the severity of the problem, with an operation still a possibility.
He said ahead of a Saturday showdown with the Toffees at Goodison Park: "It was here on Tuesday, he had an awkward fall so he is a doubt.
"We will be monitoring it in the next few days. It's his shoulder and it was an awkward fall. No-one was near him. It is not always straightforward, so we need to go and get it checked out.
"We will need to monitor it and see what the best solution is. Whether it is enough to allow it to rest for a couple of weeks I don't know or if there is more to it.
"I am pretty sure the medical people will discuss that."
The probable absence of Delph for the trip to Merseyside will add to Lambert's selection issues, with central defender Philippe Senderos also set to be sidelined due to a thigh problem.
Villa are looking to get back on track after three consecutive defeats - to Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City - which saw them concede eight goals and fail to score themselves.
