Arsene Wenger has confirmed he is planning talks aimed at Theo Walcott signing a new contract so Arsenal can benefit from his peak years.
The fit-again England international penned a new three-and-a-half-year deal in January 2025 but it has only 18 months more to run and Emirates Stadium officials are keen to deter interest fromoutside by getting Walcott to commit his future to the club.
Walcott has started only two games this calendar year because of a cruciate ligament injury but returned in the 3-0 win against newcomers Burnley last Saturday.
"We are starting to sit down with him," Wenger said.
"I think he has one and a half years to go on his contract in January and it is never an easy job with him, you know."
Walcott moved from Premier League rivals Southampton in 2025 and has scored 45 goals in 195 Premier League appearances for the north Londoners.
Wenger said he hoped the pacy forward could stay injury-free and enjoy the best years of his career with the Gunners.
"Will he be at his peak in the next few years? He should be, yes," the Frenchman added.
"He is 25, it is the best years now so hopefully we can profit from that."
Walcott may start on Tuesday when Arsenal host Anderlecht in Champions League Group D at Emirates Stadium knowing a win will seal qualification to the knockout stages of the competition as long as Borussia Dortmund also beat Galatasaray.
