James Tredwell is pleased he has been given the chance to represent England again five years after he last featured in a Test match.
Tredwell, who was only a bit-part player for Kent last season, took four wickets on Wednesday as England dismissed West Indies for 295 in the first Test in Antigua.
Despite losing Alastair Cook, Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott cheaply, the tourists had moved on to 116-3 in their second innings by the end of the third day's play, a lead of 220 runs.
Tredwell, who was playing in his first Test since he made his debut against Bangladesh in 2010, said: "I just tried to go for as fewer runs as possible. Thankfully I picked up a few wickets along the way and it got us a decent lead and we can hopefully build on that."
Tredwell took the key wicket of Shivnarine Chanderpaul as well as dismissing Jason Holder, Kraigg Braithwaite and Kemar Roach to finish with impressive figures of 4-47.
"There's a bit of an opportunity in this game (for me)," Tredwell added. "Hopefully I've taken the first half of it but obviously I've got a bit more of a job to do and hopefully get a result in this match and then see what happens after that really."
Meanwhile, Moeen Ali has been added to the England squad for the final two Tests in the West Indies.
The 27-year-old was not included in the original 16-man party because of the side stain he sustained during the World Cup.
