Rory McIlroy was pleased with the start he made to the Players Championship, opening with a solid round of 69 at TPC Sawgrass.
The world number one and four-time Major winner finished the first day on three-under par, just two shots behind leader Hideki Matsuyama.
The Northern Irishman, who had an eagle at the 16th, said afterwards: "Anything in the 60s is a very good start. You just have to be very, very patient.
"The first time I got here I felt it was a course where, if you are playing well, you should shoot 67 or 68 every time, but it's not really like that.
"It can jump up and bite you very quickly and you have to know sometimes that par is a good score and you move on."
Jason Day also had a round of 69 but last month's US Masters winner, Jordan Spieth, endured a disappointing 75 and is eight adrift of the leader.
Last year Spieth finished in a tie for fourth place at the Players Championship, which was won by Martin Kaymer, who is76.00to triumph again at Sawgrass.
