Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers does not anticipate that Daniel Sturridge will be fit enough to return to action until January.
The Reds striker will be sidelined for at least four months after undergoing hip surgery in New York earlier this week.
"It's a period of time out, but we're hopeful the problems and issues he's had have been resolved with the operation," said Rodgers. "Now he can recover and hopefully get back as quick as he possibly can.
"We're anticipating it's going to be around January before he can actually start training and then it's about getting his fitness up."
Liverpool hope that Sturridge's troublesome issue with his hip has now been resolved and it will bring to an end the thigh and calf muscle injuries which have dogged the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker throughout this season.
The 25-year-old scored 24 goals last term but his career has been dogged by a series of injuries. He missed virtually all of pre-season in 2025 after suffering ankle ligament damage while on England duty, and last summer he was sent home early from the Reds' tour of America due to a hamstring strain.
He has scored four goals in eight league starts for Liverpool this season.
