Barcelona full-back Dani Alves is hopeful that teammate Pedro will resist the interest from Manchester United and commit himself to the Spanish champions.

Pedro has been the source of much speculation in recent days with Louis van Gaal apparently keen to bring him to Old Trafford as a replacement for Angel Di Maria.

The 28-year-old Spanish international winger has found playing time difficult to come by at the Nou Camp with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar establishing themselves as Luis Enrique's regular front three.

Alves looked set to depart the club for much of last season before eventually signing a new deal and he says it is important that Pedro be allowed to make his own decision.

"The more people interfere, the harder the decision is. Of course if I had to make the decision it would be for him to stay here for many more years," Alves is quoted by the Evening Standard.

"It's down to him and his heart but if he stays we'll be delighted, if not we'll respect his decision."

While clearly keen to see his teammate remain a part of the Barcelona set-up, Alves admits that Pedro should move on if he feels his time at the club is up.

"If you feel you're not wanted at a club you have to go. Let's hope he doesn't make that decision," h added.

Barcelona are preparing to face Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup in Tbilisi on Tuesday evening and coach Enrique dismissed the chance to talk about Pedro's situation during his pre-match press conference, the coach saying "we have already spoke about Pedro too much," when questioned on the situation.

Alves does not anticipate an easy time of it against his former club Sevilla.

"One of the things I learned is that in a final, you have to fight. You can't just give in," he said.
