Interim Chelsea head coach Guus Hiddink has confirmed that skipper John Terry is not fit to feature against Southampton at St Mary's.
The former England international centre-back has been sidelined by a hamstring injury for around two weeks, having been forced from the field during the 5-1 Premier League win over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.
And Terry is not quite ready to make his comeback, leaving Hiddink to again partner Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill in central defence for the tip to the South Coast.
The Dutchman told reporters ahead of the weekend action: "He will not be fit, he is still in treatment. Every now and then he goes in the gym. He is doing exercises there and on the pitch, but he is not fit.
"We want to be careful with this kind of injury. When you have something in the tendon or in the hamstring, then sometimes you think, as a player or manager, that it appears to be good, but you must be careful.
"I am in favour of waiting two or three days more, it's not good to have a setback."
Chelsea are9/4to keep a clean sheet at St Mary's and are7/4to win the game, while they are priced at8/1to secure a 1-0 victory over their hosts.
Meanwhile, Hiddink also ruled Terry out of the league visit to Norwich City on Tuesday evening, turning his attention to a visit from Stoke City next weekend as the target forhis captainto get back amongst the action.
