Chelsea captain John Terry looks set to be sidelined for weeks rather than months after escaping serious injury to his right knee in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
The 31-year-old had a scan on suspected ligament damage on Monday amid fears he faced a lengthy spell out of action.
Terry had headed the Blues into the lead against Liverpool but was stretchered off before the interval after an accidental collision with Luis Suarez. He later left Stamford Bridge on crutches with his right knee in a brace.
It had been anticipated that Terry would be set for a lengthy lay-off, but Chelsea issued a statement that read: "MRI scans on John Terry's right knee thankfully show no significant damage to the cruciate ligaments.
"Chelsea Football Club's medical team will conduct further tests over the next two or three days once the swelling has subsided to determine how long John will be out, but it will be a matter of weeks not months."
Chelsea visit West Brom this weekend when boss Roberto Di Matteo will come up against one of his former teams.
