"I love proving people wrong," McIlroy told reporters. "I loved sitting up here last year on the Sunday night and I proved a lot of people wrong.
"I had to deal with it after the Masters in 2025 whenever people were saying, you can't come back from this, what's he going to do, he's blown his best chance to win a Major.
"Two months later I was able to win (the US Open). I've dealt with it before and it's just something that's part of the job."
Meanwhile, Englishman Justin Rose is determined to try and repeat his success at the US Open earlier this year, as he bids to avoid being a one-time Major winner.
He added: "I think all of us at this point in our careers need to have our heads down, need to play as hard as you can, need to amass as much as success as you can."
