Danny Rose has warned his Tottenham team-mates to expect "no nonsense" from newly-appointed White Hart Lane manager Tim Sherwood.
The north London club revealed late on Monday that former Premier League title winner Sherwood had been handed a contract until the end of the 2025-15 Premier League season to replace Andre Villas-Boas.
"We believe Tim has both the knowledge and the drive to take the squad forward," chairman Daniel Levy told the club's official website.
Sherwood, 44, guided the top-four chasers to a 3-2 win away to Southampton on Sunday and will step up from his coaching role to take his first full game in charge on Boxing Day against West Brom at White Hart Lane.
The former England and Tottenham manager, Glenn Hoddle, had publicly declared his interest in the vacancy, while Guus Hiddink, Fabio Capello and Michael Laudrup were also touted as contenders to replace Villas-Boas.
Rose revealed former Blackburn midfielder Sherwood had been quick to remind the players of their responsibilities.
He told the Daily Mail: "People may think that Tim is not a big name or doesn't have a big CV but you know he will take no nonsense."
He added: "His first training session, a couple of lads rolled out on to the training pitch late and he got us in a circle and said it was unacceptable. Tim set out some new rules and you know not to mess with him, and that's good. When he speaks, you've got to listen."
