Joe Hart admits that the Manchester City players need to improve as a unit as not everyone in the squad is playing to their potential at the moment.
Last season's Premier League champions are already six points behind unbeaten leaders Chelsea after losing 2-1 at West Ham United last weekend and are struggling to progress from the group stage of the Champions League after being held to a 2-2 draw by CSKA Moscow earlierthis month.
In addition, City's defence of the Capital One Cup is over after they slumped to a 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United in a fourth-round tie on Wednesday.
City's poor form has come at exactly the wrong time as they face Manchester United on Sunday, with Louis van Gaal's side in eighth place in the table after drawing 1-1 with Chelsea last weekend.
Hart accepts that City have not been at their best recently, saying: "We know we can do better, we know we can do a lot better. Obviously the Capital One Cup was a trophy we were really looking to defend and again we weren't up to the standards that we wanted to be.
"We know who we are as a unit and not everyone is exactly at their peak at the moment but we just need a few players, myself included, to step up and it will come back, but it's one of those difficult patches that we've gone through many a time.
"At this stage last season we had less points and were in a worse position and we won the league so we've got to look to things like that but the main thing is to get it right on Sunday."
