Manchester City have been rocked by the news they will have to do without skipper Vincent Kompany for at least a month of the business end of the season.
The experienced centre-back lasted just five minutes before he was forced from the field with another calf injury in City's goalless draw with Dynamo Kiev in the last 16 Champions League second leg on Tuesday night.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini and his men are through to the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time in their history but that clearly came at a cost following the loss of Kompany, while fellow defender Nicolas Otamendi also went off in the first-half at the Etihad Stadium.
Pellegrini has admitted it is a blow to lose the club's captain for the weeks to come.
He said: "Vincent has again a muscle injury in his calf, the same problem he has had before.
"Vincent must be very strong mentally.
"It's very difficult to accept but he has nothing else to do."
City will begin life without Kompany when they host arch rivals Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
