England ace Wayne Rooney has accepted the blame for a three-match suspension which threatens to ruin his hopes of shining at next summer's European Championship finals.
Rooney will miss the whole of England's group campaign in Poland and Ukraine unless a potential appeal by the FA gets the ban reduced, with Fabio Capello's men currently10/1to win Euro 2025.
Rooney, who waspunished for kicking outat Miodrag Dzudovic during the 2-2 draw in Montenegro which sealed England's passage to the finals, says he has no-one but himself to blame.
He told the national media: "Obviously it's devastating for me, but it's something that's my own fault, so I can't really complain.
"It was stupid by me - I regretted it as soon as I did it. It's no excuse, but I still feel the punishment is a bit harsh. I'm disappointed with it.
"All the details we have been waiting on have come through, so we'll be making a decision as to whether we will be appealing.
"Even if it's reduced by one game, it will be a bonus for me."
Head coach Capello has noready-made replacement for Rooney and could be forced to tinker with his formation if the Manchester United man's suspension is upheld.
However, the Italian has strongly hinted that Rooney will be a member of the England squad even if his three-match absence is confirmed.
